Halloween BOO-berries: quick, easy and delicious!

Thank you to the California Strawberry Commission for sponsoring this post.

Let me show you how mixing a few simple ingredients can make an adorable Halloween dessert for your next party or potluck. Make sure to put on your creative hat for this project, as there are a few side steps along the way. The main two challenges for me were: getting the strawberries to stand up on their tops while the chocolate dried and drawing the ghost faces on each one. I enlisted my sister to help me and I’m glad I did because she’s much more artistic than I am, and it added to the variety in our custom California strawberry ghosts. Fun fact, California strawberries are packed with vitamin C and fibre! The steps are pretty easy and the reward at the end is definitely worth the effort!

Ingredients:

  • Fresh California Strawberries

  • White chocolate

  • Dark chocolate

Method:

  1. Rinse and dry your strawberries, I kept the green tops on so that I would have something to hold on to but you might be better off making the bottoms flat.

  2. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  3. Melt the chocolate in the microwave using the “melt chocolate button,” I melted my chocolate in a narrow but tall glass measuring cup to make it easier to dip the full strawberries in.

  4. Dip about 90% of the strawberries in the white chocolate, leaving only the green top or a little bit of berry for your fingers to touch.

  5. Place the strawberry top down to let the chocolate harden.

  6. Repeat for as many berries as you plan to serve.

  7. Once the chocolate hardens you can use the same melting process for the dark chocolate, you will only need a small amount.

  8. We used both a BBQ skewer and a toothpick to draw the ghost faces with the dark chocolate.

  9. Enjoy with friends and family.

It was nice to make these treats with my sister, we chose to make these instead of carving pumpkins this year, it’s a festive craft you get to eat! I can tell you that they did not last long at my house. I would love to see your designs so please tag me on Instagram @slimnutritioncoach when you make your own BOO-berries!
